Today (13th November) marks World Kindness Day- a day put aside to remember the importance of being kind and its impact on individuals, communities and the world around us.
We can get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to take a step back and appreciate the little things in life. Thinking about one simple act of kindness each day could transform your personal outlook and impact on the lives of others.
Kindness is not just an action; it’s a gesture with the sole purpose of benefiting someone else. Whether you’re holding the door open for a stranger or offering someone directions, these seemingly small acts will help you to think about kindness as a crucial part of our lives.
It can have tangible health benefits too. Acts of kindness increase the levels of serotonin and oxytocin in your brain and can help lower blood pressure! So not only is your kindness helping others, but it’s also helping you.
Kindness is incredibly contagious. Sharing stories about acts of kindness with your friends and loved ones can really improve and uplift their mood. Everyone needs a little bit of brightness bought into their day, especially as winter draws near.
In the workplace, the act of saying thank you, of exercising understanding and gratitude for the work of others, is crucial. Surprisingly, very few acts of kindness that are shared focus on the workplace. We’re here to change that. The Indispensary regularly donates to charities and many of our clients work to support local communities.
Learning to integrate kindness and gratitude into your daily life will inevitably leave you thinking about what more you could do to support the people around you. Holding a door open could be what inspires you to start supporting charities, or to volunteer your time.
So how are planning to spread joy and kindness today? Perhaps today is the day to investigate how to raise money for charity. More on that coming soon.
